If I decide to become an ultrasound technician, can I specialize in abdominal exams only?

A person who is employed as an ultrasound technician at a hospital or clinic will be required to perform a number of different types of examinations as part of his or her professional duties.

The technician will be performing tests on patients of all ages, from newborn babies to men and women of various ages. Some of the exams will be on pregnant women, and a certain number of the tests may require trans-vaginal or trans-rectal imaging. This type of exam is not likely to be something that an ultrasound technician is required to perform on a regular basis, but the technician will be expected to perform them in a professional manner.
