Q. How do become an ultrasound technician? Do I need to become licensed to work in the field?
A. Most people who are interested in becoming ultrasound technicians complete a two-year program in sonography offered by a technical college. Prospective students should investigate their choices carefully to determine whether the school they are considering is accredited before signing up for a program.
In some cases, a prospective student is required to complete one or more prerequisite courses before being allowed to start working on the sonography program itself. This is a popular course of study, and there may even be a waiting list to get into a program. Before committing to a certain school, be sure to ask about all the requirements to be admitted to the program and how long it will take you to get in.
